One of the most popular of the Smithsonian Institution museums is the National Air and Space Museum located in Washington DC. It houses the largest number of air and space craft originals in the world, and is an indispensable center for research into the history, science, and technology of aviation and spaceflight, as well as planetary science and terrestrial geology and geophysics. In addition to using the same pink Tennessee marble, the museum imitates the National Gallery of Art’s structure across the National Mall. Since the museum is close to the United States Capitol, the Smithsonian Institution wanted a building that would be architecturally notable but not too gallantly against the Capitol Building.
If you have already seen the main attractions in Washington, Tour 1-A (the morning half of Tour 6) will visit the president’s Box and Lincoln Museum at Ford’s Theatre and the Petersen House Annex. Then see the How Things Fly exhibit and touch a Moon Rock at the Air & Space Museum and see the Dinosaurs and the Hope Diamond at the Natural History Museum. Please notify your driver if you wish to end your tour at the museum instead of returning to the bus. Available Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday
