The Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of Natural History is located on the National Mall in Washington, DC. It has the world’s largest group of natural history scientists (185) dedicated to the study of the natural and cultural history it houses 125 million species of plants, animals, fossils, meteorites, and human cultural artifacts which makes it the largest museum of its type.
It has three halls: Hall of Geology, Gems, and Minerals, Hall of dinosaurs, and Hall of mammals. The Hall of Geology, Gems, and Minerals have such things as some of the most famous pieces of gems and minerals including the famous Hope Diamond and the Star of Asia Sapphire. The Hall of dinosaurs has over 570,000 catalogued reptiles from around the world. The Hall of mammals has the largest collection of vertebrate specimens in the world.
As it is impossible to see all of Washington’s highlights in one day, this tour is especially designed to supplement Tour 4 and is filled with many exciting and historical points of interest. Tour 6 includes Tour 1-A and Tour 3 with a mid-day stop for lunch. Available Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday.
